Matterport Scan Prep Guide

A little prep goes a long way. Follow this checklist before I arrive and we'll get in, get out, and deliver a clean, professional tour — fast.

Before the scan — a few things to know:
  • Don't move furniture or objects once scanning begins — the camera builds a continuous 3D model room to room
  • Turn on every light in the house: overhead fixtures, table lamps, floor lamps — and open all blinds and curtains
  • Keep closet doors closed unless you want them included in the tour
  • Have pets? Let me know in advance so we can plan around them
  • What's visible in person will appear in the tour — scans can't be retouched afterward

Room-by-Room Checklist

Go through each area before I arrive. The more prep done ahead of time, the faster we move.

Lighting & General

  • All blinds up and curtains open
  • Every overhead light switched on
  • All table lamps and floor lamps on
  • Replace any dead bulbs (dark spots show up in the scan)
  • Hallways swept and clear of shoes, bags, and coats
  • Personal documents and private items out of sight
  • Trash cans emptied or hidden
  • Surfaces wiped down and straightened throughout

Kitchen

  • Sink empty — no dirty dishes
  • Counters wiped down and clear of clutter
  • Trash and recycling emptied or hidden
  • Cabinet doors closed
  • Appliances wiped down

Bathrooms

  • Toiletries put away or neatly organized
  • Toilet seat down
  • Sink, mirror, and toilet top wiped down
  • Trash emptied
  • Shower curtain or door closed

Bedrooms

  • Beds made
  • Surfaces tidied and straightened
  • Floor cords and cables tucked away
  • Trash emptied
  • Closet doors closed

Living & Common Areas

  • Surfaces and coffee tables wiped down
  • TV remotes, magazines, and clutter put away
  • Toys stored out of sight
  • Cords and cables tucked away
  • Throw pillows and blankets arranged neatly

Exterior & Outdoor Spaces

  • Outdoor furniture wiped down or covered neatly
  • Toys and lawn equipment stored or tidied
  • Shed and garage doors closed
  • Vehicles moved out of frame if possible
  • Trash cans moved out of sight
